Building strong, safe, healthy and drug free communities where children and families can grow to their fullest potential isn't impossible -- it is imperative if we are to improve the future for all of us! We are the DeKalb Prevention Alliance, Inc. (The Alliance). Established in 1989, we envision and work toward:
Our work is supported and sustained by the use of comprehensive prevention strategies that include: increasing knowledge/raising awareness, building skills and competencies, increasing involvement in healthy alternatives, early identification and referral, changing social policies and building capacity. Our work is guided by a set of operating principles that include: To be a community resource guided by a set of organizing principles focused on results and driven by Vision and Mission. To focus on creating conditions that maximize resources, reduce duplication of prevention services, broaden the direction of prevention, increase opportunities for networking, foster a common understanding of prevention, and build consensus and trust. To communicate, cooperate, coordinate and collaborate with others to achieve shared goals. To be culturally responsive and culturally competent. To be committed to inclusion and building relationships at all levels and all phases of planning and decision-making in the community sectors. To pledge excellence and quality in everything we do. To perform ongoing evaluation of our work. A community that celebrates the quality of life and cultural and individual diversity, where individuals and families can live, work and play together in a safe, happy, wholesome environment and where people are treasured, respected and honored for their unique contribution to the community.
