Our partners and volunteers -- through their love, caring and commitment -- integral to our success! 

To honor the work and acknowledge the shoulders of two outstanding partners on which we stand, The Alliance established the William T. White, III Community Service Award and the Paul J. Wiesner Leadership Award in December, 1994.  These awards are presented annually. 

William T. White III Community Service Award
Named for the first chairperson of The Alliance's Community Education and Awareness Committee, William T. White, III, this award is presented annually to an individual working at the grassroots level in eah of DeKalb's five Commission Districts who embody the example set by Mr. White.  William was committed to individual and community development, youth, collaboration and empowerment.  He was an individual of integrity, passion and a community volunteer par excellence.  Recipients of this award must be actively involved for three years or more in awareness raising activities, health promotion and education and/or behavior change aimed at positively impacting the lives of children and youth and improving the quality of life of adults. 

Paul J. Wiesner Leadership Award
This award is given in honor of the innovative leadership style, dedication and commitment of the former Director of the DeKalb County Board of Health and District Health Officer for District 3, Unit 5 of Georgia's Division of Public Health (1989 -- 2004), Paul J. Wiesner, M.D.  Dr. Wiesner is known locally, statewide and nationally as a leader in Public Health and was a founding member of The Alliance. The Paul J. Wiesner Leadership Award is presented to an individual employed by a government agency who has contributed positively to the growth and development of the county through his/her wo
rk.

The J. Frederick Agel Volunteer of the Year Award was established in 2005.  Mr. Agel served on the DeKalb County Board of Health for 25 years and was appointed Chairman for 20 years, first by the DeKalb County Grand Jury and subsequently reappointed by former CEOs Manuel Maloof and Liane Levetan.  Twenty-five consecutive years of volunteer service with a single organization is unparralleled.  The recipient of this award must have served five consecutive years in a volunteer capacity with a community-based or government agency in DeKalb County.  The first award will be presented in December 2005.
