The DeKalb Inter-Faith Coalition for Prevention was established in April of 1997. We maintain that health is a state of well being, based considerably upon freedom from the debilitating influences of legal and illegal substances. The Inter-Faith Coalition consists of religious entities and individuals in the community who have agreed to work together to facilitate social change for the positive transformation of the residents of DeKalb County. This transformation will be accomplished by applying religious principles to foster sustainable change to prevent and/or reduce the dangers associated with substance abuse in communities. Our Purpose: 1. To build an understanding between faiths through inter-religious dialogue; and
2. To actively seek and support faith-based solutions to Our Prevention Statement: The DeKalb Inter-Faith Coalition for Prevention aspires to develop, implement and support community-based, holistic and comprehensive prevention strategies to combat Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) abuse and its attendant problems. The Inter-Faith Coalition promotes inclusiveness of all faith communities' prevention methods, but will not promote one specific faith's traditions, teachings, or philosophies over another. We respect differences and celebrate similarities of all faiths' methods to educate their congregants and communities on prevention interventions. Our Goals: To become informed about prevention interventions to help build a healthier DeKalb County To promote the inclusion of the family in the theory and application of prevention services in DeKalb County. To pray for the prevention of the abuse of ATOD and seek to encourage individuals, families, and faith communities to join us in prayer. Membership: Membership is open to all faith communities and persons who will support and promote the mission and goals of the DeKalb Inter-Faith Coalition for Prevention and its parent body, The DeKalb Prevention Alliance, Inc. The DeKalb Inter-Faith Coalition meets regularly and seeks the active participation of pastors, ministers, priests, rabbis, imams, laity, volunteers, professionals and residents of DeKalb County.
